Researching popular places with live (cam) footage.

Most interesting places
- The Trevi Fountain (Rome)
https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/italia/lazio/roma/fontana-di-trevi.html

- Piazza San Marco (Venice)
https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/italia/veneto/venezia/piazza-san-marco.html

And to see how our own country is doing
- Market Square (Eindhoven)
https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/netherlands/north-brabant/eindhoven/eindhoven.html

It's interesting how invisible these cameras actually are. It kind of feels like I'm invading peoples privacy by looking at the live footage.

(Eindhoven) It's also kind of strange to see how many people are watching?

In the whatsapp group most of us really like the idea to map a zoo, since the second wave is here and we wont be able to go to the zoo (or would prefer not to) we might be able to use a live cam of a zoo.
OBSERVATION
Observing a pedestrian crossing & pedestrian behavior (27-09-2020)
Crossing #1

Location
Dillenburgsingel in Leidschendam

Time
11:37-11:55

Nearby places
Tram stop, bus stop, primary school, appartement building, supermarket, baker

Amount
Total amount of pedestrians: 11
Pedestrians using public transport: 4

1 An elderly lady (70-80) exiting the tram crossing the street. She was walking a bit slouched over.
2 A middle aged man (40-55) zipping his dark blue jacket while crossing the street with haste, he was walking towards the tram stop. Once he reached the tram stop he tied his shoe laces.
3 An older man (55-65) in a mobility scooter who did not pay attention to the traffic while crossing.
4 2 younger people (between 16-20) with a small dog, a man and a woman. They were both wearing highschool backpacks.
5 2 young men (18-20) speaking a foreign language walking towards the tram stop, they were almost wearing the same clothes.
6 2 people (between 35-45) walking rather fast, 1 very tall man with a bright blue windbreaker jacket. And a shorter woman with a purple jacket. The man was walking confidently with his head held high.
7 a young woman (late 20's) holding an Albert Heijn plastic bag in one hand and a cigarette in the other. She was wearing sports clothing and her walking speed was very slow.
8 a man (late 30-35) who was wearing a cammo jacket and walking his large dog. He walked normally but was very cautious near the crossing.

Currently working on mapping my research in a visual way. In my notes I saw that I focused on age and clothing a lot so I will map that.

I will also make a blank version so that everyone can play with the format and use it for their data if they want.

Revisiting Crossing #1 during rush hour (30-09)
(All the people listed used the crosswalk, 2 trams left and 1 arrived during my observation

Location
Dillenburgsingel in Leidschendam

Time
08:12-08:28

Nearby places
Tram stop, bus stop, primary school, appartement building, supermarket, baker

Amount
Total amount of pedestrians: 23
Pedestrians using public transport: 19

1. a young man (20-ish) wearing a puffer coat and blue sneakers, running from the other side of the street towards the tram that was about to leave as I sat down on the bench close to the stop.
2. a woman of around 40 with curly brown hair ran half way across the crosswalk and then gave up because the tram left.
3. 2 teenage girls, one was looking at her phone while crossing. The other was talking. They were both wearing a black coat and one of them was wearing a pastel pink hijab. They were both walking towards the tram stop
4. a group of 4 teenagers walking towards the tram stop, they were all male. One was wearing a red cammo tracksuit and a cap. The other 3 boys were all wearing a facemask. One of them was wearing white jeans. The other 2 were also wearing tracksuits, one in black the other one dark blue. They all were wearing the same white sneakers.
5. one middle aged man (40-50) wearing a blue suit and an overcoat.
6. a tall middle aged man (40-50) with just a light blue sweatshirt and a backpack, he was walking towards the tramstop where he started to shave his face. (it was very strange)
7. A teenage boy( 13-16) and a younger boy (8-10) both wearing backpacks and facemasks. They walked towards the bus stop.
8. An elderly man (70-80) with a tan coat.
9. A young man (25-30) with a small dog, he was walking and texting at the same time. He did look both ways before using the crosswalk though.
10. A woman (30-40) holding the hands of 2 young girls, stopping very obviously in front of the crosswalk and looking both ways together with the girls.
11. A middle aged woman with a purple/lavendel coat/vest and glasses walking towards the tram stop.
12. A young man (20-25) with a large backpack and glasses rapidly walks towards the bus stop.
13. A group of 3 people cross at the same time, 2 men and 1 woman they don't seem to know each other. One person, a middle aged woman (40-50) tries to keep some distance and seems visibly annoyed. One man looked older (50-60) and one guy seemed around my age (20-25)
14. A woman (late 20s) with a colorful headwrap and colorful clothing exited the tram and crossed the street.
15. A broad older man (50-60) with long grey hair (in a ponytail) exited the tram and crossed the street. He seemed very confident.

Conclusion

During the rush hour the amount of people using the crosswalk has multiplied which was to be expect. The most interesting part for me was seeing clusters of different age groups, and how when observing I could tell where they were going.
The woman with the kids for example, she was bringing them to the primary school behind the tram stop.
Whereas the group of teenagers were going to high school, merely 2 stops away.
